Cork City Marathon

Jun 4, 2007 [Noel Guiden] Today`s Cork City Marathon, the first in nearly two decades was won by Bantry AC`s Alan O`Shea in 2:27.36. There were two Clonliffe athletes in the 1350 or so finishers, Frank Martin 4:17.57 and Mick Hogan 4:28.24. The race also included a Marathon Relay for teams of 2 to 5 runners. The crack “Spirit Of Cork” team featuring our own Cian McLoughlin with Noel Berkeley and Cathal Lombard were pre race favourites, however they were out foxed by West Waterford AC who took the win from “the Spirit”. Rumour has it that Cian will be part of another Relay squad in next Saturday`s Wicklow Way Relay. There are a number of Clonliffe athletes taking on the Wicklow Mountains including Bronagh Ni Bhriain, Aisling Coppinger, Tony Kiernan, Fionula Doherty, Dave Brennan, Eugene Coppinger and many more.
