May 3, 2009 Running his first track race since the Beijing Olympics final, Alistair Cragg won the 5,000m at the Peyton Jordan Invitational in Stanford University last night. With last 1200m covered in under 3 mins, he crossed the line in 13.22.36. Holding off 2007 World Championship 4th place finisher Matt Tegenkamp over the last 450m Cragg looked back to his old self. Josphat Boit, a popular figure around the club last Summer, was 4th in the same race in 13.28.70
In the 10,000m Mark Kenneally ran a new personal best time when finishing 3rd in 28.44.53. This compares favourably to his 28.55.49 run at the same track in 2007. Mark went through halfway in 14.26 and was able to run the second half slightly faster with 14.18. Never far from the front throughout the race Mark ran the last lap in 62 seconds to hold on for 3rd. This time is also under the recently published standards for the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona.
