Cronin takes 1500 bronze in Athlone

Sean Cronin took a fine bronze in this morning’s U/20 National Indoor’s 1500 in Athlone in a new PB of 3.53.59. Running in a loaded heat 3 Sean ran a great tactical race, getting out fast from the gun into 3rd place and holding that position throughout, save for momentarily loosing it at the bell, but on the back straight was back in bronze. The top 3 all broke the championship record. Matei Ursachi in heat 1 took the race by the scruff of the neck opening a lead well before half way that he opened even further over the closing laps to win in 4.06.81, a big PB. Heat 2 saw a great Clonliffe battle won by Lorcan Benjacar taking 1st place in 4.03.84 from Rory Quill, who PB’d in 3rd place, 4.04.68.

In the women’s U/23 Sarah Bateson had a disappointing run to 10th place in 4.52.79.

In the U/23 men’s 60 Craig Duffy was 2nd in his heat, 7.11, but injury forced him to end his day early and miss the final. Adam Festus, had his first race in the Clonliffe vest, placing 6th in his heat, 7.50.
