Declan Murray gets European QT and new club record

Clonliffe`s Declan Murray won last night`s  800m at the Boston University Scarlet and White Invitational. In his first outing of the season over the distance the New Jersey based Murray had a superb gun to flag win in an excellent 1.48.35, comfortably inside the European Indoors standard and a time which is also a new Clonliffe Harriers indoor club record, meaning that he now holds both indoor and outdoor records. Speeking post race he commented:  “I went through 600 in 1:20 and brought it home,” he said. “It feels good to get the standard out of the way at my first attempt. I’m running a 1,000m at Millrose Games next week, and I hope to break the Irish record, then it’s off to Ireland for the Nationals the week after that.”

Also competing Stateside last night was Aaron Hanlon for Providence College in the Medley Distance Relay as Providence won the race by a winning margin of some 10 seconds.
