Dermot Breslin wins the Frank White Trophy

March 28th: On an unseasonably cold night the 2025 Grand Prix Series got underway in Morton Stadium on Thursday 27th March 2025. Thankfully the rain cleared prior to the start. This year’s Series will consist of 17 races from now until next November. With a record entry this year’s event is expected to be the most competitive yet. 

Sean Doran continued where he left off in the 2024 Series by taking the lead from the start to finish setting a blistering pace. He completed the 5-mile distance in 26:35. Niall Sherlock laid down a marker running an even paced race and posting a time of 28:37. Making a return to form Ray Dunne was third in a time of 29:21.  

In a most exciting women’s race Blathnaid Patton was fifth overall and was first woman home in 32:36. She was closely followed by Rachel McFadden in 32:43. Siobhan Devaney was third in 36:36.   

Grand Prix Result  Dermot Breslin, completing the 5 mile in 36:51, become the first winner in this year’s Grand Prix. Dermot has been a great supporter of the Grand Prix and survived stiff competition to take thee Frank While Trophy. Niall Sherlock who posted the second fastest time was second in the Grand Prix. David Murphy with the fourth fastest time 32:16 claimed the third place in a time of 32:16.

Many thanks to Breen Pollard who sponsored the prizes for the 5 Mile. There was a great turnout of volunteers s to assist in managing the race. Gladys was on hand to supply post-race refreshments.    

Next Race  On Sunday 20th April, Easter Sunday, the McDonald Cup 4 Mile will take place in Morton Stadium at 9:30am. This is will be the second race in the 2025 Grand Prix Series. It will also be a festive occasion where some surprising seasonal goodies will be served at the post-race reception.
