On Thursday evening the 5th September the Middlesex Cup 5000m took place in Morton Stadium Santry. This was the 11th race in the 2024 Clonliffe Grand Prix Series. Again there was a big entry and two races were held. While the rain held off the runners had to contend with strong winds throughout the event.
5000m Race 1, In the first race of the evening, and despite the windy conditions, Sean Doran set off a cracking pace. Sean held the lead throughout the race and clocked a finishing time of 15:47. Cian Murray was second in a time of 16:47. Lee Duddy was third in 16:55. In all there 27 finishers.
5000m Race 2, In the second race Liam Ward was first in a time of 20:43. This was strong performance by Liam given the windy conditions. In second place was Jerry O’Sullivan in a time of 21:17. Philip Matthews was third in 21:31. There were 29 finishers in Race 2.

Grand Prix result, In the Grand Prix competition the wind played a big factor and militated against achieving PBs on the night. On this occasion Diarmuid Doyle won the handicap with a time of 21:44. In second place with strong performance was Liam Ward and in third was Dermot Faughan. A prize giving too place in the Clonliffe Clubhouse after the race.
