Dublin Doubles for Ava & Matei!

Eugenia Bateson reports: On a wintry June day the Dublin Juvenile Individual Championships concluded in Morton Stadium today.

First to the Sprints.  U18 Ava Usanova took her 2nd title of the Championships.  Having won the 200m title yesterday, Ava came back today to take the 100m in 12.86. Emily Jachan took the 4th position in 13.26 and Caoimhe De Bellow finished in 10th in 14.53.

Matei Ursachi having won the U18 Steeplechase and achieved U18 European Qualification, was back on the track today for the 1500m.  With 2 heats with results based on time, Matei ran an impressive race and was a clear winner in a time of 4.07.84 in the second heat.  Aidan Benjacar ran his first Championship race following his surgery last summer and came 2nd in Heat 1 narrowly missing National Qualification with a 5th place overall with his time of 4.16.12. Jack Quinn ran in heat one and finished 8th in that heat in 4.25.71.   Aaron Murray ran in heat 2 and finished 4th in 4.27.65.

In the U19 1500m Lorcan Benjacar took the title in 4.13.50 with Tom Breslin taking the bronze in 4.14.91.
Staying with the 1500m, in the U14 Girls Kate Gill was our only girl.  Kate gained invaluable experience in this race.  Having recently taken on athletics Kate is showing great promise and the want to train hard and compete harder.  She finished 8th in 5.29.  No doubt Kate will grow from strength to strength and I am looking forward to see what she can achieve both as an individual and with the team events later in the year.

U14 Boys, Mark Kelly took 4th in his LSA Singlet and a place in the Nationals.  Training Partner Eoghan Thompson finished 6th in 5.00.60 with Joel Thomas finishing 13th in 5.21.32.
U16 Boys saw Edy Blaque finish 6th 4.40.63 and Joshua Chalmers finishing 7th in 4.44.04.

In the Sprints: U12 Girls, the girls were out in force again today.  An exciting bunch of girls who are keen to put themselves out there to compete which is fantastic to see.  Looking forward to see how these girls do in the upcoming team events as we move to Cross Country.  In heat 1 newcomer Adrianna Madrzynska finished 3rd in her heat in 9.94.  Grace Keegan was in the same heat finishing 8th in 10.73.  In heat 2 Sarah Thomas finished 5th in 10.25.  Heat 3, Grace Byrne finished 7th in 10.99.  In Heat 4, Muireann Spence finished 4th in 9.91.  In heat 5, Lucy Fagan finished 5th in 10.50. In heat 6,  Millie Ryan finished 3rd in 9.52 and Emily Galvin 7th in 10.69. In Heat 7, Ava Fagan finished 3rd in 9.89 and in heat 8, Isabelle O’Brien finished 8th. 

In the Girls U16 100m we had one participant Sophie Rattigan who finished 8th in her heat.
On to the Boys and again the U12 Boys were out in force.  In heat 1, Conn Feore finished 5th in 9.70.  In heat 2, Fernando Sheridan finished 6th in 9.75.  In heat 3 Rhys Daly was first over the line in a time of 9.23 earning Q to the final.  In heat 4 Max Bamford also won his heat in a time of 9.36 and a Q to the final.  In the Final Rhys Daly threw himself over the finish line to take the 4th position in a time of 9.23. Max finished 9th fastest U12 Boy in Dublin in 9.74.

In the U13 Boys, Adam Phelan, distance runner threw in a quick speed training session in the 80m finishing 8th in 12.92. In heat 2, Eliott Ryan finished 4th in 12.89 and in heat 4, Sorley Mullet finished 6th in 12.34.

In the U16 Boys 100m, Matthew Keogh finished 4th in heat 1 in 12.85 and a Q into the final.  He finished 7th in the final in a time of 12.90.

In the U14 Boys 2K Walk Eoghan Thompson finished 2nd in 13.12.

Well done to all you took part in the Dublin Championships.  Relays on Wednesday and Friday close out the Dublin outdoor Track and & Field Outdoor Championship Season.
