Dublin Juvenile championships up and running

May 23, 2008 [Noel Guiden] Day 1 of the 3 day Dublin Juvenile Track and Field C`ships took place in the Morton Stadium this evening. This evening`s action was confined to the middle distance events for the various age groups with a host of good 800m races on view. There were a number of fine performances from the young Harriers in action in particular golden moments provided by Graham Mahon and young Keith Hodson.

Keith provided the first gold of these championships in the U/10 300m. In the U/15 girls 800m Laura Preston ran a very strong last lap to get into contention for a medal, however, the effort told as she was ran out of bronze finishing 4th. Ian Guiden ran yet another PB this time in the U/15 800 to take bronze in 2.26.

On then to the U/17s where very strong front running by Graham Mahon seen him take 800m gold in 2.05. Sarah Finnegan was another athlete showing good form always at the head of the field in the U/18 800 finishing a very credable 3rd in 2.24.

The final race of the night was the boys U/18 and U/19 final where there was a large Clonliffe presence. Dave Fitzmaurice coming way down in distance had a battle royal with MSB over the final 150 neck and neck in the race of the night with Fitzie missing out on the by a fraction however taking gold in the U/19 in a new PB of 2.00. Larry Brady ran a PB, his 4th of the week 2.04 for 3rd U/18 . Jordan Logue ran 2.14 and Gregg McLoughlin ran 2.22.

Mention also of Sean McLoughlin who qualified for the final of the U/12 600m.
