Dublin Juvenile League finale in rain free Tallaght

A perfect night for athletics for tonight`s Dublin Juvenile league in Tallaght: nice sunshine, still, and you read it here first…IT DID NOT RAIN!! Again there was a good turn out of Clonliffe athletes making the trip southside. Surprise of the day was the form of Greg Hossenny, who only came to Tallaght as part of his warm up for tomorrow`s Leinster Schools where he goes in the Race Walk. Greg was 1st in the U/16 400 in a blistering 59.19, chased home by Shane Merrigan 59.63, Sean Carrigg ran 65.25. A fantastic run also by Joseph Hession U/15 finishing 2nd in 59.56, a solid run also in this race from Fintan McManus. Ruth Bergin was also very impressive winning her U/14 400 in 63.2, Lauren Carr also won her 400 in 67.12. roth also placed 4th in the long jump.

In the 200m races there was a Clonliffe win recorded by Hope Somola, while Amy Hodson was 2nd in the U/12. Jack Fitzsimons finished 3rd in the U/10s.

The middle distance race on the card tonight was the 1500, a solid race by Clina Cooley, then the girls U/15 and U/16s ran together. Alannah Cooley ran very well to finish 2nd over all, and 2nd U/16 in a pb of 5.19.87. Aimee McGrath was 4th U/15 (5.47.92). In the boys race again the U/15s and 16s ran together. Sean Carrigg (U/16) after a 64 second opener lead the race almost throughout but paid the price and was overhauled with 200 to go and was then caught by the fast finishing Joseph Hession (U/15) Joseph running 4.36.56 to Sean`s 4.37.07. the rest of the Clonliffe packed followed: Shane Merrigan, Alex Gibbons, Alex Hogan and Keith Hodson.

Tonight brought the curtin down on the league, many thanks to Dublin Juvenile Competion Secretary Cecil Johnson and his team for all their hard work.
