The Clonliffe band wagon rolled into Tallaght once again tonight for the conclusion of the Dublin Juvenile track & field Championships – day 99, not quite it was only day 5. A soft drizzle greeted the black and amber, but it was perfect for running.
A small number of teams, but they were crack teams, made the journey from Santry and enjoyed great success taking 3 sets of medals back to HQ.
First off the U/16 girls who exceed expectations, while medals were expected, gold made for a most pleasant surprise. The team got off to a great start from young Rebecca Fitzsimons moving up a year, passing onto Amy Connolly who torn down the back straight to extent the lead, passing onto Kate Howlett who ran an outstanding bend to pass with a good lead to the anchor leg ran by Lauren Carr who took the team to Dublin gold.
Just time to draw breath before the U/12 boys team flew around the track Keith Burke onto James McDonnell to Jonathan Fitzsimons who flew around the bend and then into the safe hands and fast legs of Michael Coleman with silver being the reward.
The U/14 girls battled through heats with two teams making the final. Superb runs by all eight girls with the A`s taking an excellent silver: Claire Connolly, Ella Brown, Amy Hodson and Rachel Fagan. The B team`s performance was possible the performance of the day, the girls: Abby Sheehy, Holly Roche, Aoife Hession and Vicky McDonnell all putting in outstanding runs to finish in 4th place.
Great runs also by the U/12 girls who made it through their semi to take their place in the Dublin final, the team of Holly Foy, Nisha Cullen, Sally Somola and Lara Gallagher finishing an excellent 6th.
