Oct 6, 2007 [Bronagh Ni Bhriain] – (Updated Oct 12, 2007) I have never seen the sun shine at a cross country race like it did today…isn’t it meant to be rain, muck and bog up to your knees? Today looked and felt like a June Bank holiday, and although the refreshments were plentiful back at the Donore Harriers clubhouse, lots refused the homemade soup in favour of water and sunbathing on the clubhouse balcony. Everyone heading home after the race was talking of BBQs. But enough about the weather and back to the races.
There were 2 teams of clonliffe ladies out for the Dublin novice cross country race made up of 14 of the ladies squad. Becky Woods of Clonliffe A team led the field of 60 women home in a winning time of 11.34 with team-mates Ailish McDermott in 4th, Finnuala Doherty in 5th and Sarah Woods in 6th. This secured gold medals for the girls in the team prizes. Also running on the Clonliffe A team were Jacqui Dunphy (9th), Rachel McBride (11th) and Karen Duggan (12th). The Clonliffe B team members (7th team) ran a great race too with excellent individual performances for some who were running their first cross country race. 1st scorer on the B team was Maura Ni Cearbhaill (18th), Ann Louise Mulhall (21st), Marie Byrne (25th), Sinead Hartnett (33rd), Joyce O Hare (35th) and Carmel Morrissey (56th).
Clonliffe Men’s A team came 5th and was made up of Fergal Hartnett (10th), Paul Boylan (16th), Stephen Harkness (22nd) and Jeremy Walsh (40th). The B team came 10th with Chris McLoughlin (23rd) Aidan Creaner (37th) Maurice McCrohan (47th) Stephen Byrne (58th).
See you all at the Intermediate Cross Country next Sunday in Tymon Park .
