Dublin Silver for Jack Maughan at Graded, plus more

Stephen Bateson reports on tonight’s (May 24th) Graded Meet: It was a perfect evening for racing in Lucan for meet 3 of the Dublin Graded meetings. First up in Women’s 800m B race was Ciara Boulman.  Ciara went to the front at 300 m and was in a battle until the last 70 m but just came up short to finish in 2nd place in a time of 2:31.59 which was a pb.

In the field Rolus Olusa won the Shot putt with a throw of 11.55m.

The 800s tonight were Dublin County Championships. In the Men’s 800 B race Jack Maughan ran a very competitive race that was actaully faster than the A race resulting in him taking 3rd in the B race but Dublin Championship-silver in 1:58.34, a PB.

The Men’s C race, we had 3 representatives with a blend of youth and experience, with both Sherlock brothers Niall and Tom and youth from Mahad Mohamed, making his track debut. The C race was split into two races with Niall running in the first with Tom and Mahad running in the second. In his race Niall took a tactical position positioned in 2nd  on the bell, and then pushing down the back straight and despite some strong attention was able to hold off to finish 1st in 2:05:39.

In the second C race Mahad and Tom were well positioned in the leading group and hit the bell around 63, over the final lap Tom initially pushed to the front but it was Mahad who prevailed in a pb, as it was his debut on the track in a fine time of 2:06.86 and Tom in 3rd in a time of 2:08:28.

In the Men’s 800 m D, Paul Clarridge ran 2:40:56 for 11th.

In the womens 400 C, Snezana Bechtina and Rebecca Walsh were 1st and 2nd . Rebecca was fast out of the blocks and leading into the top bend with Snezhana running more even paced to win in 61.22 , Rebecca come a strong 2nd in a 4 sec pb of 62:23. This elevates Rebecca to 36th on the all time list, impressive for a junior athlete who has only recently stepped down to the 400.

Next up was the Men’s B 400m where Rolus Olusa came home 2nd in 51.46 and in the final event of the night Christopher Lynch was placed 1st in the D race in a time of 54:79, which similarly to Rebecca Walsh is impressive running for a Junior athlete.

The next Graded Meet is June 3rd in UCD where the 100, 400, 1500, javelin, Pole Vault and Javelin are on offer.
