Duffy and Adamczyk win Varsity titles

Stephen Bateson reports: The Irish Universities Athletic Association outdoor championship returned to the Morton Stadium on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th April. There were many Clonliffe Athletes representing their colleges on their home patch.

The highlight of the weekend was Craig Duffy impressively winning the Men’s 100 m in 10.61. Craig had an excellent couple of days winning all three races and keeping the 10.61 for the final, a new PB.

There was gold also for Hubert Adamczyk in the javelin with a best-throw of 50.70 m.

On the track there were 4 Harriers in the semis in a very competitive 800 m, with Oran Kenny making the final as a fastest qualifier from heat 1 in a time of 1:55.49 (PB). In the final Oran was placed 7th with a time of 1:57.30. George Warren was unlucky not to make the final when running 1:57.47 in Semi 3. Evan Lynch ran a PB, and first sub 2:00 in 1:59.25 in Heat 1, with Daragh Morris also in a pb of 2:18.55.

The men’s semi  400m draw left Johnny Fitzsimons in lane 1, unperturbed Johnny made the final in 50.68, bettering that in the final in 50.48 in 6th position.

In the Steeplechase Cillian Keegan ran a season opener and PB of 10:19.28 to finish 8th, in the 5000 m B race, Lee Duddy was 2nd in a PB of 16:03.74 with Jack Woods also with a PB in 3rd 16:15.85.

Craig Duffy was part of the Maynooth University 4 x 100 team that finished 5th, with Daragh Morris also part of the Maynooth 4 x 400 which set a University record in 3:51.53, while Niall McCaffrey was on the Queen’s University 4 x 400 that finished 5th in 3:39.79.
