It happened today. Edel Maguire with 4 silver medals in her pocket took the coveted gold and the European Masters title today. W60 high jump gold with a 1.42.
Earlier in the week: The European Masters athletics championships commenced on Thursday, September 21 and will run until October 1 in Pescara, Italy. Clonliffe master sprinters Edel Maguire and Katherine Markey have been in early action. On Thursday Katherine ran a 100 SB of 14.43 in her heat to qualify for the semifinals where she clocked 14.80 for 14th place overall. Multi-Irish Masters record holder and titleholder Edel’s first outing was on Friday when she took a superb silver in the W60 100 in a time of 14.18, which was not only a PB but an Irish Masters record. In the 200 today, Sunday, Edel once again took silver, behind the favourite Alexis Nicole (FRA) who completed a 100/200 double, Edel recording a time of 29.16. Katherine was also in action in the 200 finishing 3rd in her heat in a time of 30.44.
Monday and Edel took yet another silver this time in the 4 x 100 relay running the anchor leg.
Tuesday and a 4th silver! W60 400 in 67.00.
Snezana Bechtina won W40 4 x 100 silver and today (Thursday) placed 5th in the High jump with a 1.45m best. Over the weekend it’s the 4 x 400.
