Efrem 26th at Euro Cross Country

Running his first European senior cross-country Championships in Antalya, Turkey this morning Efrem Gidey finished a fighting 26th. After a messy start Efrem found himself well down the field at the 1st bend but as the race wore on he worked himself up steadily, at one stage he was just outside of the top 50, he was then into the 40s and really got going with 2 laps to go to take 26th position. The European cross-country champion was once again Jakob Ingebrigtsen (NOR).

The Irish scoring 3 of Cormac Dalton (Mullingar) 21st, Efrem 26th, Pierre Murchan (DCH) 41st finished in 8th position.

Stand out performances from an Irish perspective at the Europeans was a magnificent silver medal in the men’s U/23 race by Nick Griggs (CNDR) and an excellent run in the women’s senior race by Niamh Allen (Leevale) to take 11th place in a photo finish for 10th with the British cross country champion.
