Weather conditions in Dublin for today’s big road race, the Axa Raheny 5, were to say the least testing for both competitors and indeed organisers. After storm damage on Friday there was a course change required and then today’s conditions were far from ideal, lashing rain and windy. None of this of course proved to be in any way a deterrent to Efrem Gidey who simply scorched around the course clocking a superb 22.47, an incredible time given the conditions. Efrem was a full minute ahead of his pursuers. Colm Rooney took 3rd place (24.05) and with Mahad Egaal in 10th position (24.51) the Clonliffe men comfortably took the team title ahead of promoting club Raheny Shamrocks.
Other notable performances from the 50 strong Clonliffe contingent included: 18th Stephen Cashin (25.04), 29th Cathal McHale (26.07), 33rd Sean Doran (26.25), 46th Karl Nolan (26.51) and 50th Anto Doran (26.58). In the age categories Colm Rooney was 1st M40 with Karl Nolan 2nd M40. Alan Hughes was 2nd M65.
