It was another superb club night at Morton Stadium for tonight’s club track meet. Star of the show was undoubtedly Efrem Gidey who ran a solo 5000 PB of 14.06.5. Efrem was out of the “blocks” like grease lightning and took up the running quickly dropping the entire field including Sergiu Ciobanu covering the 1st mile in 4:30 and simply ran away from the rest of the field and even though he slowed over the latter stages still recorded a fine solo PB. Young Callum Simpson had a superb race in third place recording a PB by a huge margin of 15.46.5
The meet had got underway with the 200s with some very impressive performances in the men’s race by both Pascal Touche and Rolus Olusa, 22.3 and 22.8. Great also to see super master Matt Slattery back in action. Likewise the women’s race also produced some superb sprinting this race won by Rebecca Fitzsimons 26.7
In the 800s Daniel Lacey ran a PB bettering his previous PB of a couple of weeks ago as he ran a time of 1.56.8 to take a superb win. Jenny Johnson continues to impress with a gun to tape win also in 2.24.6 (her 3rd time to hit this mark in as many races)
In addition of course there was great races throughout the night with several 800 and 5000 races enjoyed by the athletes on what was an excellent night for running. Full results below along with photographs. Once again a huge thank you to the officials who had made these nights for the club athletes possible over the latter part of the summer months. Next up night 2 this date two weeks August 27 where the bill of fare will include 1000 and 3000, once again hopefully we can have some sprint races on the night. Further details next week.
