Clonliffe`s Fionnuala Doherty had a fantastic run in The Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday the 11th of June running a PB of 3:12.06 finishing a wonderful 4th place in the womens race.
The race was run in very hot conditions which made thing extreamly uncomfortable and difficult for the 4,200 marathon runners taking part. In conjunction with the actual Marathon was a relay Marathon which attracted some 850 teams. The race was run through the lovely city of Edinburgh with pipe bands manning the route. An estimated crowd of 100,000 lined the streets cheering on the runners.
Fionnuala , who placed 2nd individual in the Dublin Road Novice Championship and was a member of our ladies Gold medal winning team that night ( just, finally, confirmed by the Dublin County Board along with confirmation that our Mens team also won Gold in that c`ship ) ran a superb race and was only out of the top 3 women by less than a minute.
First in the womens race was Angela Howe 2:51.41. First man was Kenyan Joseph Mbithi 2:15.46. Full details on www.edinburgh-marathon.com
