First Senior Title for Ian Rogers (updated with Sunday`s results)

Pole Vaulter Ian Rogers crowned the perfect week yesterday in Athlone at the Woodies DIY National Senior Indoor Championships. After winning the Irish Versities title last Friday, with a Versities record, then the Leinster Title on Sunday Rogers today took his first National Senior title with a best of 4.60m. Fellow Clonliffe man and multi National title winner David Donegan was 2nd with 4.50m.

In the 5k walk young Ryan Cleary, still a junior, was 7th in a time of 23.05.7.

Qualifying for Sunday`s finals were Kristaps Valters 2nd in his 800 heat in a feast 1.55.41 and Andrew Jenkinson also 2nd in 1.59.18. Mark McDonald just missed out, 3rd in the same heat in 1.59.48. Also through is Ciara McCallion in the women`s 400 after winning her heat in 56.31. Snezana Bechtina placed 7th (59.67) in that same heat and failed to progress. Also loosing out were Edgars Sumskis 8th in his 1500 heat in 4.12.37 and Stuart Roche in the 60m, 6th in 7.33.

Day 2, Sunday 16th: a great run by Ciara McCallion to win bronze in the 400m in a time of 55.67. Becky Woods finished in that unlucky 4th position in the 1500m (4.37.88). Unlucky 4th also for Kristaps Valters in the 800m, after a lot of bumping and boring his time of 1.53.77 was only one tenth off bronze. Andrew Jenkinson was 8th in 1.57.44.
