Five star show at Blackrock School`s Invitational

The Clonliffe  U/17 and 16 squad delivered quality runs in the intermediate race at this morning`s Blackrock College School`s Invitational Cross Country with 5 in the top 8. From the off the Clonliffe quintet were in the lead bunch very well positioned for the duration of the 4,000m plus race over 3 laps. On the final lap Ben Guiden in 3rd place opened a gap of a few meters on Daniel Lacey with Cian Bolger a few meters further in arrears, only for Daniel to hit back over the final 200 to take 3rd place for St. Aidans with Ben 4th. Ben, however, had the consolation of leading his Belvedere team to gold. The Clonliffe five star show: 3rd Daniel Lacey (St. Aidans), 4th Ben Guiden (Belvedere), 5th Cian Bolger (St. Aidans), 7th Jordan Byrne (St. Aidans) and 8th Daniel Stone (Belvedere).

In the inter girls race over 2,500m Ella Brown carried her good form from Saturday`s Club cross country into today running a very strong race to finish 2nd. Ella got herself into 3rd place from the off, a place she held throughout and was therefore in a position to benefit when her schools mate went the wrong way on the final lap.

Dermot Buckley continues to flourish! Another excellent run in the St. Aidans`colours in the junior boys race saw Dermo come through strongly to finish in 4th position. Not far off of him was Sam Kowalczyk in 6th with Stephen Tierney in 12th.
