From National XC Champion to Grand National winner

A ten year journey! Jockey Paddy O’Hanlon won the Irish Grand National on board 40-1 outsider Lord Lariat at Fairyhouse yesterday. Back in the day Paddy was a fine athlete at underage level with Clonliffe and indeed almost 10 years ago, on December 9th 2012 he was 2nd scorer on the Clonliffe’s U/15 boys team crowned national champions in Adamstown, Co. Wexford on Sunday December 9th. That year the team headed to Wexford having finished 2nd in the Dublin Cross Country and whilst it was always felt that the lads were more than capable of a medal winning performance to take gold was frankly stunning. The foundations of the win came courtesy of fantastic runs from Adam O’Brien an excellent 4th place and the future star jockey Paddy O’Hanlon with the best race of his career (up to yesterday of course!) in 28th place. The other team members were Sean Carrigg, Dave O’Hanlon, Joey Hession and Kevin McKenna.
