Giles wins National U/18 800 title plus day 2

Day 1 of the National Juvenile Championships yesterday in Tullamore saw Craig Giles successfully defend his 800 National tile. After a 2.01.01 heat he ran a superb 1.56.61 in the final and win the U/18 title.

Daniel Lacey was also in good form taking bronze in the U/18 3000 sc (10.12.92).

The rest of the crew all put in strong performances against the best athletes in the country. Young Jonathan Fitzsimons was 12th in the U/13 600 (1.44.34), in the girls U/15 800 13th Alana Fitzsimons (2.31.92), 14th Katie Halpin (2.33.66), U/16 10th Amy Hodson (2.27.66), U/18 7th Hannah Browne (2.26.81). In the U/15 High Jump Emma McDonnell was joint 5th (1.50M0 and Nicole Lapiy 10th U/14 javelin (21.98).

Day 2 today: Silver for Caitlin O`Reilly in the U/18 100 (12.23), silver also for Justinas Gedvilas U/19 Javelin, and bronze for Jonas Norvaisas U/13 shot in a new pb of 11.19m.

Other great performances in the 3000 where in the U/16 girls Sarah Bateson ran really well in her first national placing 9th in a new pb of 11.25.65. PB also for Daragh Carter U/16 of 9.59.14 and by both athletes in the U/17 Aaron Cullen 9.03.86 for an excellent 4th and Ben Guiden 8th in 9.29.85. U/17 Jordan Byrne was 12th (9.55.54).

Rebecca Fitzsimons also recorded a pb in the U/17 400 of 59.92, to make the final and 61.98 for 8th in the final. Rapha Diamond Ebbs was 5th in her 400 heat (63.04) and Jessica Deideku ran 13.36 in her U/17 100 heat.
