There were fine performances by Clonliffe athletes in today’s DCU invitational cross country held in spring like conditions at St Claire’s, Glasvevin. Conditions could not have been better, a warm sunny day and perfect underfoot conditions. Goda Buivytyte was a convincing and most comfortable winner of the senior girls race with Sarah Doherty 2nd.

In the senior boys race over approx 4000m there was a great inter Clonliffe battle up front, interestingly all running for different schools. On the final lap Matei Ursachi made what looked like the winning move with about 1000 to go however he could not shake off the Kilkenny athlete and was beaten in the dip for the line 2nd place. 3rd was Lorcan Benjacar with Tom Breslin 4th.
In the earlier races, there were notable runs from Eoghan Thompson, 4th in the minor boys, and Carragh NiFhloinn 5th in the minor girls.
Well done to all the Clonliffe athletes over the course of the day’s racing and well done also to the crew who were out from early morning assisting our friends in DCU with the course and officiating duties. Next up on the schools cross country calendar are the regional qualifiers for the Leinster cross country finals from the 22nd to 24th of January.
