Grand Prix: McDonald Cup on Easter Sunday

Round 2 of the 2025 Clonliffe Grand Prix Series takes place this Easter Sunday morning, April 12th, the McDonald Cup, 4 miles, on the track at Morton Stadium. The race is kindly sponsored by Clonliffe Women’ s Captain, Ciara O’Regan.

This Easter Sunday round 2 of the Grand Prix takes place in Morton Stadium. The event is the McDonald Cup, a 4-mile handicap which takes place on the track.  The McDonald Cup is one of the historic Clonliffe Club Races dating all the way back to 1907. The original version of the race took place some 118 years ago in Clonee, County Dublin a 4 mile “flat” race for a cup presented by Mr. JJ McDonald and was won by J. Ironmonger.  The race is now one of the early season Grand Prix races. 

Race start: This event will start at 09:30am. 

Check in: Check in opens at 08:45am

Bibs: to be worn:  Each runner will be required to wear a bib number for this race to ensure that the results can be processed efficiently. The relevant bib number for each athlete is indicated on the race start list.  

Health and safety:  A short safety briefing will be given prior to the race. 

Race officials: The GP Committee would ask any Clonliffe members who are not competing to assist at the race. 

Post race refreshments: As the race is being held on Easter Sunday seasonal goodies will be provided at the post-race reception and prize giving.
