Grand Prix: O’Connor Cup, June 1st

Mick Kearney reports: The Grand Prix returned to Santry for the fifth race in the current Series last evening. In calm pleasant conditions 37 runners completed a continental style grass course in a record pace.  

Following a mass start Sean Doran took an early lead which he maintained finishing in a time of 21:59. Anto Doran was second in 23:27 with Peter Bissett third in 24:47.  

Laura Tuite led the ladies home in 24:41. Rachel McFadden was second in 26:26 with Julie Larkin third in 27:20 

In the Grand Prix competition Sean Doran was first, Clodagh Moriarty second with Alan Worrall third. 

Next race – ALSAA 8pm Thursday 8th June – 5000m  

The current scheduled races have now been completed. Pending the return of competition to the new track at Morton Stadium the GP Committee are not yet in a position to issue a further schedule of races. However, to maintain the momentum already achieved with the current Series of the Grand Prix the first of the track races will commence next Thursday 8th of June at 8pm with a 5000 meters race in ALSAA.
