Great start to Dublins by young Black `n`Amber

The Dublin Juvenile Championships got off to a great start for Clonliffe Harriers tonight in Morton Stadium. The track action tonight was the 500-800m races. The younger age groups ran in heats tonight with a great turn out of young athletes and over the course of several heats a lot of the club`s athletes were successful in booking their final places for Sunday in Tallaght.

U/17 girl Alannah Cooley ran one of her best races todate. Coming off the final bend she was sitting on the tail end of a group of 4 but pulled out a truly gutsy sprint all the way through the line and passed two athletes to grab herself a precious Dublin silver medal in 2.24.8 .

Silver also for Laura Tuite in the U/18 after a fine run 2.23.6 and showing a great return to form Sally Ahern a fraction behind (2.23.8) to take bronze.

Lauren Carr was the class of the field in the U/15 800, dominating the race to win Dublin gold (2.29.1)

Of the boys star of the evening was Joseph Hession putting in a great display of front running to win the U/16 800 in a fast 2.02.5. Sean Carrigg also ran strongly in the U/17 800, after a slow opening lap Sean drove on the pace on lap 2 to take bronze (2.07.6)

Recently join Clonliffe athlete Craig Giles also impressed in the U/15 800 taking 3rd place in an excellent 2.09.6. Also in impressive form was U/14 athlete Cian Bolger who also took bronze.

Finally of course Jonathan Fitzsimon needless to say also medalled winning silver in U/10 boys 500, this event being run in heats and decided on time. Jonathan was also presented with his trophy won following on his exploites in the Track & Field league.

So a great start, and tomorrow Tallaght here we come!
