The juvenile athletes season finale, the Christmas Cake Race, took place on the track in the Morton Stadium last night. Held in excellent conditions there was a great turn out of young Harriers for the traditional handicapped race. It`s not that many years ago when there was difficulty filling the field in a single race, but such are the numbers of athletes in the club now that last night there were six races all with packed fields catering for maybe 100 youngsters.
As always great sportsmanship from all taking part, particularly following on Gladys` promise that “if you start last tonight, you`ll be first off next year” (do kids still fall for that one?). Post race a packed clubhouse for goodie bags, again a huge thank you to Colm Doran for his sponsorship, and the prize giving of a Cake to the winners and presentation of athletes of the year in the older age groups.
