Highs and lows of the Marathon, plus Sunday round up

As always with the Marathon it was a day of highs and lows. Stephen Scullion endured a tough day on the streets of London finishing in 2:16.04. Also in London Karl Nolan ran an excellent PB of 2:28.11, Kate Hawkshaw made a superb marathon debut 3:09.50, putting her 16th on the Clonliffe all time list, and Stephen Ryan 3:12.25. Also today at the Vienna Marathon Ben Nugent ran 2:51.41 and Matt McGuinness 2:54.55.

At today’s Bucharest 10k Mihail Sprincean was 3rd in a time of 31.34.

Meanwhile closer to home the Wexford half marathon took place over a hilly course for Ger Clerkin placed 3rd in a time of 76.35. Meghan O’Keeffe was 2nd woman in a new PB of 90.14 and young Harry Lynam ran 95.50.

Also today the St Andrews AC Road race took place in Ashbourne, Co Meath today over 5K and 10k. In the 5K race first of the Clonliffe contingent home was Anto Doran in 18.08 taking 3rd place. 3rd woman was Ciara Peelo 20.08, followed in by Joyce O’Hare, 5th woman (20.50), next in was Maura Matthews 21.09, Claire Smith 21.13, Jean Carr 22.43 and Emer Brennan 25.12. In the 10K race Rachel Eustace also climbed the podium to take 3rd place in the women’s race in a time of 44.30, next in was Elaine McLaughlin 45.21 and in his Clonliffe debut Sean Scott 53.55, a PB by a massive 15 minutes!
