It was a weekend double indoor win by Clonliffe pole vaulterIan Rogers in Athlone. The Irish Universities Indoor Championships took place at the Athlone IT International Arena on Friday, Feb 7th. Ian Rogers took the Pole Vault title with a season`s best and new Irish Universities record of 4.70m.
Becky Woods continued her good form in winning silver in the 1500m in 4.37.44, a TCD record. Andrew Jenkinson ran 2.06.78 in his 800 heat to qualify for the final and then recorded a time of 2.00.32 as he placed 6th in the final. Johnny Bradley ran a time of 10.18.89 in the 3000m.
Snezana Bechtina finished 3rd in her 400 heat (59.22) but did not progress any further. A similar faith befell Paul Whelan and Stuart Roche in the 60m, with Paul 2nd in 7.17 and Stuart 3rd in the same heat in 7.26. Paul Whelan also competed in the long jump 12th (5.86).
To bookend the weekend Ian Rogers was at it again in Athlone on Sunday the 9th once again taking the Leinster title. (height not yet to hand)
On the subject of indoors Eoin Pierce was in action at the British indoor Championships in Sheffield where he was 8th in his 1500 heat in 3.57.65
