The indoor season started in earnest today with the AAI Games, at the NIA, Abbottstown. Lorcan Benjacar took an impressive win in the a tactical 1500 winning in 4.01.66 with Fintan Kerins 3rd (4.03.00). In the 1500 B race Aidan Benjacar was 6th (4.22.45) and Ronan Fitzpatrick 8th (4.32.83).
Tokyo Olympian Marcus Lawler got his season off to a fine start winning the men’s 200 in 21.22 and finishing 2nd in the 60 (6.87). Also in the 60 Leo Morgan was 4th (6.91) with Craig Duffy 5th (6.94). In the 2nd heat Anthony Dillon took 6th place (7.13) and in the 3rd heat Kenji Miyauchi 7th (7.27). In series 2 Marcus was 3rd in 6.82 with Craig 5th (6.91). Anthony Dillon clocked 7.10 in series 2.
Jonny Fitzsimons recorded a time of 50.36 in the 400 as he placed 3rd in heat number 2. Christopher Lynch placing 4th in heat 1 ran 50.54.
Sean Carrigg took 3rd place in the 800 in a time of 1.57.00. In the 3000 there was an intriguing Clonliffe youth versus experience battle between Matei Ursachi and Colm Rooney where experience prevailed with Rooney taking the win in 8.47.93 and young Matei was 5th (8.54.11).
