It`s official Clonliffe Harriers are the club of the year

Nov 18, 2007 [Noel Guiden] Clonliffe Harriers AC are proud and honoured to be the 2007 Athletics Club of the year. At last night`s Athletics Ireland`s National Awards Dinner held in The Crown Plaza Hotel in Santry the club were named the 2007 club of the year. In announcing the award Gregg Allen outlined that the selection body were looking for a vibrant club which has athletes participating accross the whole spectrum of athletics, from Juvenile, through Junior and Senior right up to Masters and that Clonliffe clearly filled the criteria with considerable level of success to boot. The beautiful Waterford Crystal award was collected on behalf of the members of the club by Captains Joe Cooper and Bronagh O`Brien (left).

In what was a hugely enjoyable occasion Eileen O`Keeffe was named Athlete of the year,Kelly Proper Junior athlete of the year, David Gillick received the Performance of the year award for his performance in the European Indoors 400m. Fionnuala Britton was the Cross Country Athlete of the year, Paul Hession the Track Athletes of the year and Rob Hefferen the Race Walker of the year.

The great Ronnie Delaney was inducted into the Hall of Fame, the coach of the year was Rathfarnham`s Adam Jones and great friend of Clonliffe and the whole of Irish Athletics Harry Gorman was the Official of the year.

A truely great night was had by all in attendence with the renewal of friendships from many years ago as a stand out on what was an outstanding night for Irish Athletics.As a club Clonliffe can be very proud to receive such recognition and as we approach the final month of 2007 we can reflect on what has been a superb year for our club as a whole and all our members should feel very proud of themselves.
