Jack Deegan one of the longest serving members of Clonliffe Harriers passed away yesterday December 14th at the age of 93. Jack Deegan joined Clonliffe back in the 1940s, he was a great servant of the club serving as a committee member for a long number of years. He was involved with all the club`s major developments from the time the club came to Santry in 1955. He was also well know in our sport as an official, officiating at Clonliffe Sports, National and International meetings, Jack also served on the management committees of various athletics bodies AAU, BLE and AAI and was involved in the negotiations which brought unity in Irish Athletics and in 1967 was a member of the inaugural management committee of the newly formed BLE. Jack even in later years was still an active support of Clonliffe events and was a regular visitor to Santry for the Morton Mile and National Championships. He was a true gentleman.
Funeral arrangements: Removal on Tuesday, to Corpus Christi Church, Homefarm Rd. arriving at 5.30pm. Funeral Mass on Wednesday, at 11.30am and afterwards to Dardistown Cemetery. Donations, if desired, to the Irish Cancer Society.
