James Nolan and Bernie Byrne rewrite the record books in Athlone.

The National Masters Indoor Championships were held at Athlone IT on Saturday, the 9th, and as expected there was a record number competing. The club`s master athletes athletes responded in some style with several medals being brought back to Santry and three magnificent national records. James Nolan won the O/35 1500m title smashing the existing record by 9 seconds, recording a time of 4.00.76 and then Bernie Byrne with the stand out performance of the meet won two more master`s titles and both with new National records: first off the O/50 800m in 2.32.55, bettering the previous record by 4 seconds and then the 1500m in a time of 5.19.18 tearing the existing record apart by an unbelieveable 25, yes 25 seconds!!

Katheryn Walley took a noteable golden O/50 double 200m (33.50) and 400m (75.59). Gold also for Philip O`Dohery in O/50 800m in a time of 2.14.29. Philip also placed 2nd in the O/50 1500m.  Finally Matt Slattery took a silver double in O/60 60m in 8.84 and 200 in 28.71.
