Johnny O’Leary the Harrier of the year

Clonliffe Harriers honoured the achievements of the clubs athletes at the club’s annual athletes of the year award night, held in conjunction with the cake race presentation. The men and the women’s captains outlined the highlights of the year, the club president made a special presentation on behalf of the late Joe Cooper to the clubs U/18, U/19, U/20 squad. The squad in recent weeks have won the national U/18 and U/19 cross country titles, finished 2nd in the U/20 and as a result qualified for the European clubs cross country.

The Clonliffe athletes of the year were;

Junior athlete of the year – Tom Breslin.

Master athlete of the year – Edel Maguire.

Men’s track and field athlete of the year – Eoin Sheridan.

Women’s track and field athlete of the year – Jess Tappin

Men’s road/cross country athlete of the year – Stephen Scullion.

Women’s road/cross country athlete of the year – Yuliya Taravosa.

The Club Captain then announced at the Harrier of the year, the award being given to a Clonliffe Harrier who had given so much of this time to the club throughout the course of the year, he volunteered at an extraordinary number of events for the club, Dublin Graded Meets and national events, he is also the club’s longest serving member who this year celebrated his 65th year as a Clonliffe Harrier. To a wonderful acclamation Johnny O’Leary was named the Clonliffe Harrier of the year. A very popular and deserved winner.
