Eugenia Bateson reports: Today saw the start of the Juvenile League held in Tallaght Stadium. For some of our younger Clonliffe Harriers it was their first time to travel to the Tallaght track and for some it was their first ever competition.
Great numbers turned to compete in 400m from U14 to U16 and distance races for the U11 to U16’s comprising of distances from 500m, 600m and 1500m. Also on offer was the Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Putt, Javelin and Turbo Javelin. The Leagues are a fantastic way to try competition at the various events and we would encourage our younger athletes to get out there an give it a go. Shorter distances will be in round 2 on the 11th May.
Dublin Athletics will publish results shortly, however a few notable performances that we are proud to share. The distances races were run on times. Ava Fagan won her 600m heat U12. Her twin, Lucy finished 6th in her heat. Millie Ryan also finished 6th in her heat
Eoghan Thomas, Joel Thomas and Braxton O’Shea all won their U14 Boys 400m heats. On times Braxton O’Shea took the bronze overall. Ryan Fagan finished 2nd in his heat in a very fast race finishing 5th overall. Seamus Phelan finished 3rd in his heat with Sam Steenson finishing 5th in his heat.
In the 1500m boys Heats, Eoghan Thompson won his heat with Braxton O’Shea 2nd, Mark came 4th and Joel 9th. Eoghan Thompson took 3rd place overall.
In the U16 Girls Sophie Kiernan took her 2nd silver this week in the 1500m
In the U13 Boys Javelin, Frank Burke took the Bronze.
