Oct 19, 2009 [Noel Guiden] Mark Kenneally was 2nd in yesterday`s Gerry Farnan Memorial Cross Country held in perfect conditions in Dublin`s Phoenix Park. After a race long toe to toe battle the 5 mile feature race of the festival was won by Mark Christie with Kenneally 2nd and Gary Thornton 3rd. Philip O`Doherty placed 99th. The race of course incorporated the trail race for the Irish Master`s team for next month`s British and Irish Master`s International, in the older age groups, run over three laps Pat Bonass continued his excellent Autumn form finishing 2nd in the O/65 and earning selection to the Irish team for the 5th time. Terry Mee placed 8th in the O/65, also of note was the 3rd place finish of former Clonliffe man Pat Healy. Mags Greenan also looks like being on the plane to Birmingham as a result of her 3rd place in the O/50, 44th overall. Good run also in the women`s race by Aislish McDermott 28th.
Earlier in the day the Dublin U/18 Cross Country Championships were held with our boys and girls both taking team bronze medals. First home of the boys was Fintan Doherty, running a year out of age, an impressive 8th place, next in was new signing David Butler two places ahead of 800m man Graham Mahon, and Johnny Bradley Ward making up the scoring four. The scoring four in the girls race were Denise Callaghan, Roisin Gallager, Niamh Hussey (on her come back race, the first in nearly two years) and Aisling Aherne, a good run also from Irene Falvey just out of the scoring four. Well done all.
