Lacey battles to Dublin “Indoor” 1500 title

On a bitterly cold Santry night the Dublin Juvenile Indoor Championships kicked off tonight with field events inside, whilst the middle distance athletes battled the cold on the outdoor track. In addition to battling the elements some of the Clonliffe athletes also battled fatigue after Wednesday`s Leinster schools cross country.

Performance of the night outside came from Daniel Lacey who put fatigue to the back of his mind as he kicked for home to take the U/17 Dublin title in 4.34. Fine runs also in this race from Stephen Cashin 4th, Jordan Byrne 5th and Sam Baker Gorman 9th.

Another athlete who will join Daniel at the National Indoors in Athlone is Cian Bolger, after an excellent run in the U/16 1500. Cian`s never say die attitude was rewarded with a fine 3rd place in 4.33. A strong run also by Ben Guiden in 5th and Ian McElweney 8th.

The girls team were out on luck with Tess Loftus 4th in the U/16 1500 in 5.28 closely followed by Aimee Warren in 5th. 4th also in the U/17 race by Hannah Browne (5.27) and in the U/18s Marwa Ali place 6th.

Meanwhile back at the ranch: Caitlin O`Reilly won the U/17 Long Jump with a 4.90m best. The action resumes tomorrow at 10.00am.
