Laffey closes in on club 400 record

Jul 1, 2007 [Noel Guiden] Both John Laffey and Danny Kavanagh (left, old pic) travelled to Nivelles in Belgium this weekend with excellent performances from both, in particular from Laffey who won the 400m with continued improvement in his fledgling career as a 400m runner as he lowers his PB yet again, this time to 47:95, only 400th`s of a second off Anthony Foran`s club record (47:91) dating back 12 years. Danny Kavanagh was 4th in the 100m in 11:29.

Three of our middle distance men travelled to the Woodside Stadium, Watford for yesterday`s Grand Prix no. 2 of the British Milers Club`s Summer series. Colm Rooney in excellent form lately won the B 1500m in 3:43.13 a new PB. Gary O`Hanlon was 9th in race D (3:52.42) and Conor Healy won race D in the 800m recording 1:52.25.

Closer to home we had three athletes competing in the 56th Cork City Sports held in the Mardyke yesterday. Jeremy Lyons won the Irish Milers Club B 800 in 1:56.99. Mark McDonald was 4th in the IMC 800 A in 1:55.93 and Eoin McDonnell was 5th in the Junior men`s 1500m in 4:04.03.
