Mar 8, 2008 [Brian McDonald] All Ireland Schools and University cross country championships where held in Loughrea (Dartfield Equestrian Centre) on Saturday 8th March.
The venue turned quickly into a mud fest, with the underfoot conditions could be described as “awful and sticky “ , which resulted in a significant number of DNF athletes, and forced most runners to warm up on the road, as one could not find a dry area to warm up on.
There were various Clonliffe Harrier athletes running for both their schools and university.
The major highlight of the day was the Gold for St Aidan’s CBS, in the senior boys race, which was run over 6500m, to bridge a gap of 23 years from there last win. Leading the team home was Larry Brady who had a fantastic performance finishing in 13th place, followed by Colm Murray (19), Tony Kavanagh (22), and Mark McDonald (23). The team captained was Paul Sherrin.
Other notable performances included Becky Woods (Trinity) who was 6th in the University Ladies race. Sarah Finnegan (Loreto Stephens Green) finished 26th in the Senior girls race. While Jordan Logue was 22nd in the Intermediate boys race.
