The schools action this week focuses on the East and South Leinsters with again qualification for the Leinster track and field at stake. The East Leinsters day 1 took place in Morton Stadium on Wednesday. The news to hand confirms a great run by Tess Loftus in the girls U/16 mile to take bronze and grab one of those precious starting places in the Leinster finals. In the U/16 boys race Seamus Farrell, a sprinter, went way over distance, and was 2nd in the mile. Ian McIweeney was unlucky just missing out in a blanket finishing in the junior boys 1500 placing 4th.
Colin Sweeney, who had a superb cross country season and was 3rd in the All Ireland Schools Minor boys race in Sligo, continued his excellent form with a fine win in the minor 1100.
Thursday Mark Keirns was 3rd in the inter 200m.
On to today (Friday) and then Final qualifiers in East Leinster where Ella Brown was 3rd in the junior 800 with Abbie Sheehy 4th. (text 0879599888 with any omitted results)
So all told the club`s athletes have preformed superbly over the past two weeks with the Leinsters in Santry on May 11th and 14th now to look forward to for those who have qualified, but one and all have done the club, their schools and themselves proud.
