The Leinster track and field championships continued as sun drenched Carlow today where Snezana Bechtina completed yet another golden double to add to yesterday’s golden double to take four Leinster Masters titles. Yesterday Snezana won W40 100 and 400 and today she added the 200 (27.97) and the 400 H (1.15.80).
Anna Heavey having broken 60 seconds for the 400 for the 1st time yesterday and took Leinster bronze in the process, follows that up today by winning the Leinster senior 200 bronze (27.96). In the senior men’s 200 Conor Wilson was 5th (23.35).
Stephen Cashin ‘enjoyed’ a race long 5000m battle with David Scanlon of Rathfarnham however with 4 to go Scanlon bolted and thereafter Stephen chased as hard as he could taking senior silver (15.30.68). Tom Monks took M60 5000 gold (21.58.49).
In the Masters 800 a tired Niall Sherlock 1 M35 gold (2.13.59) gold also for George Maybury in the 800 M 65 (3.03.71).
In the field events Edel Maguire, confining herself to one event only, W60 high jump gold with a fine 1.40m, Frances Mansfield took yet another Leinster title in the W75 hammer (17.89). Joe Gibbons took bronze in the M60 discus (20.68).
Meanwhile Ian Guiden on his 10k road debut finished 16th in the Canadian 10K Road championships in Ottawa yesterday evening, May 27 run in very high temperatures in a time of 31.20.
