May 11, 2008 [Killian Lonergan] Clonliffe’s Jeremy Lyons shattered his recently set Club Record for the 400m Hurdles yesterday in the AAI Games/GV Ryan Competition. In ideal conditions at the Irishtown track Jeremy fought all the way to the line to out duel the 2007 National Champion, DSD’s Jonathon Miller, in a time of 53.34. This knocked 1.35 seconds off his 2 week old record. Crucially, the carrot of his decade old Personal Best time of 52.9 secs is still there!
Our 800m boys won the 3x800m relay from Finn Valley and Donore in 6 mins even. Lead off by Eoin McDonnell, the young team were always looking like the trio to beat. Paul Breslin produced a strong run to consolidate the position before David Fitzmaurice brough the team home for Gold – first National Senior Gold medals for all three. Well done.
In the field, our Javelin stalwarth, Denis Delaney was beaten by Paul Marry for first Clonliffe man. They finished 3rd and 4th respectively with distances of 55.36m and 51.42m. Robert Butler was 6th with 42.78m.
In other events, John Harnett was 6th in the 400m in a time of 53.88. David Fitzmaurice was 3rd in the 1500m in 4.08.73 and our female javelin throwers, Denise Byrne and Ruth Farrelly were 3rd and 4th with throws of 37.02m and 32.21m.
Next up is the 1st round of the National League on May 18th.
