Magnificent PB for Killian

Jun 4, 2007 [Noel Guiden] Club vice captain Killian Lonerigan ran a 10,000m PB in Belgium on Saturday June 2nd in the “Nacht Van de Euregio” meet held in Neerpelt of 28:37.05.This was a top class performance in a top class race, the top 10 all broke 28 minutes including a South American record from last year`s New York City Marathon winner Marilson Gomes dos Santos of Brazil who ran 27:28.12.Race winner was Robert Sigei Kipngelich (Kenya) in an extreamly pacy 27:04.18. Killian`s magnificent run brought him home in 14th place in a time which would have been a Clonliffe Club record but for Alistair Cragg`s new Irish Record (27:39.55) set at the end of April.

Killian went through the 5,000m mark in 14:16 and ran his 25th and final lap in 66 seconds.(NOTE TO KILLIAN: there`s a group of us doing interval sessions on Tuesday nights if you fancy working on your finishing speed!)

Killian is obviously 2nd on the Clonliffe all time list and after Saturday`s run is currently 10th in the European 10,000m 2007 rankings.

Alistair Cragg was in action in New York also on Saturday night, according to news paper reports having Mark Carrol`s Irish 5,000m record in his sights, however in sweltering heat decided to live to fight another day and pulled out.
