On Day 1 of the National Juvenile Championships in Tullamore today, Matei Ursachi took the National U/18 3000 SC title in a new Championship record of 9:33.48. The previous 2022 CR record of Billy Coogan – Gowran A.C of 9:41.99 was bettered by a considerable margin. Matie said “it’s nice to get a good race like that before Europeans”. the new National champion was selected earlier in the week to represent Ireland in the European U18 Championships in Slovenia later this month.
In the U17 Boys Steeplechase 2000m SC – Tadgh Cowley finished in a fine 4th place in a time of 7:01.49.
U16 Boys 800m saw Joshua Chalmers compete in a very fast 800m. The time got the better of Joshua today, the race won in 1.58.59 with Joshua feeling the pressure and finishing in 14th. Definitely a case of good experience earned and will get Joshua well focused for the Cross Country Season ahead.
In the U15 Boys, Jack Moyles competed in the Discus finished an impressive 4th with a best throw of 32.14.
In the U14 Boys young Braxton O’Shea gained invaluable experience at this National Championships in the 800m. Braxton finished 4th in his heat with a PB of 2:20.92.
Day 2 of the Championships take place on the 21st July which will host sprint events.
