Men tops after Round 1 of Indoor League

The Clonliffe Men currently top the table following on round 1 of the Indoor League held in Athlone IT yesterday on 99 points, 9 clear of Raheny whilst the women’s team occupy 7th position on 36 points.

For the men there was maximum points scored by Ian Rogers in the Pole Vault with a fine win in a best of 4.70m. (Dave Donegan guested in this vaulting 4.60m). There was also a win for Antio Garcia in the 60H in a time of 8.49. There were second place finishes recorded by Kris Valters in the 800 in a time of 1.55.55 and in the 60m by Isreal Ibanu in 7.29. Michael Curley placed 4th in the shot (10.42m) and Andrei Minnihan was 5th in the long jump (6.24).

For the women’s team there were 2nd places secured by young Megan Coomber in the long jump (4.97), Megan placed 9th in the 60m in 8.32, 2nd place was also secured in the shot by Denise Byrne (7.97m).

Snezana Bechtina was 7th in the 60H in 10.95 and, having her first outing at this level, Laoise Moggan placed 9th in the 800 in 2.43.6.

A very positive start, therefore, to the league which attracted a record number of 32 clubs competing. Round 2 takes place on Saturday the 31st of January with the prize on offer a berth in the league final on February 7th.
