Mick Murphy Memorial 5 on Thursday

The Grand Prix Series goes back to Malahide Castle next Thursday for the Michael Murphy Memorial 5 Mile. This is one of the top races in the club season. A race which on Thursday is it`s 37th running. The first winner of this race, a 2 lapper of the Castle grounds was Michael Murphy in 24.02. Michael tragically died in an accident a year or so later and the race was named in his honour with his family providing a memorial cup.

In the past this race has attracted some of the club`s top athletes. Fastest man ever over the course was 1984 Olympian Jerry Kiernan 22.59 in 1982. Other great Clonliffe men to race include Killian Lonergan and Eamonn Tierney.

Thursday`s race has an 8.00pm start. The meeting point is the rear of the Cricket Club in the Park, with the club kindly allowing use of it`s facilities for showers and prize giving.
