The 123.ie National Indoors got underway at the NIA Abbottstown this afternoon. From a Clonliffe perspective Cathal Doyle comfortably qualified for tomorrow’s 1500 final winning heat 1 in a pedestrian 4.02.86. Jack Maughan was 6th in that race (4.08.37). In the women’s 1500 both Clonliffe athletes were likewise drawn in the same heat and although neither progressed both Niamh Kelly and Sarah Bateson ran well with both recording a new 1500 pbs. Niamh took a massive 6 seconds off her previous best running 4.35.77 to finish 7th, only a fraction off qualifying for tomorrow’s final, Sarah also ran a PB of 4.47.08 in placing 9th. Oren Kenny was 4th in his 800 heat in a time of 1.57.65. 4th place also in his 200 heat for Michael Deady (24.38) and indeed 4th place in the WFD with a best of 6.60 for Niall Allen.
