National juvenile championships: two gold medals

Jul 6, 2008 [Killian Lonergan] There were some excellent performances across events at this weekend’s National Juvenile Championships held at the Antrim Forum.

We had two winners with Mark McDonald winning the U19 800m in a time of 1.55.35. With 3 athletes under 1.56.00 it was a tight affair up the home straight with Mark proving to have the legs to take the wing. Meanwhile David Fitzmaurice won the boys U19 3000m in a time of 8.56.13.

Larry Brady picked up another National medal with his 2nd place finish in the U18 2000m Steeplchase – with a time of 6.28.47. Fifth and sixth in this race also went to Clonliffe as Jaime Rossiter and Conor McGuinness ran 6.55.68 and 6.57.80 respectively. Brady was also 7th in the 3000m in a time of 9.28.23. Mark McKenzie was 12th in the same race.

Shauna Furman picked up a silver medal in the U18 100m hurdles with a 15.7 seconds performance. She was also 3rd in the 300m hurdles with 47.42
