NI C’ship Medals taken back South

Some very positive performances from Clonliffe athletes in the lead up to the National track and field league at the Northern Ireland and Ulster track and field championships at the Mary Peters track in Belfast today. Simon Galligan impressed enormously with an excellent 60.93 to win the hammer competition. Simon has been coming into some good form competition upon competition and set himself a target today of beating the 60 mark. Eoin Sheridan also impressed in the throwing circle winning the discus competition with a 54.24 throw.

On the track Jonny Whan with this third race in a week finished third in the 1500 in a time of 3.49.00. Third also for Leo Morgan in the 100, Leo ran 11.04 in the heat and in the final clocked 10.88 to take bronze. Laura Tuite ran a great race in the B 1500, always at the business end of this race battled to finish a fine third in a time of 4.49.42. Niall Carbery found himself in a real championship bruiser in the B 1500 finishing fifth in 4.08.21. In the 5000 A Ben Guiden ran another fine race to finish in eighth place in 15.09.31. In the C race Ian McAlweeney placed 10th (16.40.46), Thomas Balthazar 12th (17.10.34) and Cian Whelan will benefit enormously from the experience as he placed 14th (19.33.88).
