Niall Allen leads from the front at Masters

The curtain is finally closing on the domestic track and field season. As readers will have seen yesterday in Tullamore Clonliffe athletes were to the fore in the U/20 and U/23 discus, well today it was Niall Allen who continued the Clonliffe throws charge at the same venue for the National Masters track and field championships.

Earlier in the week Niall unfortunately lost his father however today he honoured his father’s memory by taking gold in 3 throws events – M 50 discus (33.96), M 50 shot (12.05) and M 50 WFD (8.49). Not only that but Niall was also there to support some of the clubs’ athletes that he coaches, Emma Byrne who took 2nd in the W 40 shot (7.50) and Ciara O’Regan, 4th W 45 WFD (3.85).

Also in the throws it is fantastic once again report on the continued success of one of the original Morton Marvels, all of 60 years later, as Frances Mansfield took W 80 hammer gold (17.89). Sinead McDermott took W40 javelin bronze with a 19.51 best.

A resurgent David Donegan took the M 40 pole vault title with a best of 4.01.

In the sprints Snezhana Bechtina took W 40 200 gold (26.60) and silver in the 100 (13.18), to complete the set Snezhana also took High Jump bronze.

Niall Sherlock was just out of the medals finishing 4th in the M 35 800 in a time of 2.12.33.George Maybury took M70 800 gold in 3.12.42.
